Hmmmm, dunno why I turned all piratey in the subject but here goes.

In a recent interview SOE's John Smedly admits to "screwing up" Star Wars Galaxies:

"Absolutely, you know, performance improvements, bugs, definitely at the top of our list. We're not going to go in and make some broad-sweeping changes. We tried that with Star Wars Galaxies, we screwed it up, and we're not going to do it again. [laughs] It really is as simple as that. We try to learn from our mistakes. Maybe we're not always perfect, but in this particular case let's fix the things that are broken, not the things that aren't"

Does that mean a better `Galaxies` awaits us me hearties?!

I've heard good and bad things about SW:G, one of these days I'm going to have to download the free trial and check it out. I already tried that with WoW and was severely disappointed.

Poor Smedley though, he always seems to be SOE's fall guy when some thing goes wrong. Personally I've been a fan of their MMO's since I first logged into Everquest in 1999/2000... and until I logged off in 2007 and moved over to Vanguard: Saga of Heroes lol.

The latter is good fun, despite the bad press its gotten due to being launched earlier than intended (due to contract issues).

I'm curious, which game(s) was Smedley being interviewed about?

Galaxies won't get better, Bioware is developing a KOTOR MMORPG.

That means very little, honestly. Star Wars Galaxies is starting to get better and better. They've recently added voice-chat and the team over at Sony is working very hard to make Chapters 10 and 11 amazing. I have a feeling SWG is gunna bet a huge reboot soon. With two good MMOs fans will be very happy.

Considering their current track record, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Its the game play that sucks in this game. Used to be that it took ages to kill a mob with a gun (for example). They changed this and made it a lot better - then they changed it back

the only way galaxies will improve is if the reset it to the beginning but fix things like the whole gun/mob/kill time thing.

i honestly think that if they got rid of the CU and the NGE changes people would start playing it again. i know i certainly would.

lets just hope bioware don't screw up there supposed knights of the old republic mmo

Who knows-- maybe they will take a downtime to do that. Maybe it will just come one day.

after having become bored with WoW, i think i may give galaxies another go.

may as well it can't have gotten worse, and i think i still have som play time left on my subscription.
