The ORIGINAL movies all the way. Lucas just f'ed up. The only addition to ANY of the movies that made sense and actually added to the emotional impact was the scene in the hangar bay in ANH between Luke and Biggs. Prior to that the whole emotional connection was lost and the moustached guy was just another pilot getting shut down... you heard his name but didn't connect him with Biggs on Tattooine and Luke's old friend.

That scene - however crappy acted it is... still added extra emotional depth to the drama at the Trench Run. Luke didn't just lose his back-up, no, he lost a good friend.

I know, I know... this was about the RotJ ending... but the SE version was just lame. Just because you kill the Emperor and Vader doesn't mean the Army and Navy would just stop fighting and do what they've always done. They'd just made it a fascist military rule... no way they'd just give up like that.
